Prior to the introduction of Energex's tariff structure in July 2015 the Miller's received notification from Energex that they had to address their poor power factor. They had a poor power factor of just 84 percent with 1 being optimal. If this was not rectified it would cost them an extra $6,580 annually due to the new charging structure from kW to kVa.
A poor power factor is common in many commercial buildings with large electronic, pumping,motors, welding and air conditioning loads all contributing. It will not only add a large amount to your bill but can also contribute to the malfunction, component failures and deterioration of equipment much sooner.
